About SBATs

Introduction

A school-based apprenticeship/traineeship (SBAT) combines:

- paid work
- training in a nationally recognised qualification; and
- credit towards the HSC.

It allows students to commence an apprenticeship or complete a traineeship while at school.

SBTs are available to all Year 10, 11 and 12 high school students; SBAs are available to Year 11 and 12 students, and where appropriate, they may be available to Year 10 students.

All SBATs are processed through the school, Education Officer VET and the Regional Representative.

Industry-Based Learning

Students participating in an SBAT, may undertake Industry Based Learning, as a:

- 2 unit x 2 year course; or
- 1 unit x 1 year course

This forms part of their HSC pattern of study, and is designed to provide students with the opportunity to reflect on their SBAT, and manage their senior studies.
