Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of servicing tasks in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.

This course can only be accessed by school-based trainees.

Students will gain foundation skills to fuel their career as an automotive mechanic or heavy vehicle mechanic and develop the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of servicing operations on light vehicles, within a mechanical service or repair business.

Job roles can be Automotive Serviceperson - General or Light Vehicle.

AURATA001 Identify basic automotive faults using troubleshooting processes
AURETR115 Inspect, test and service batteries

AURTTC001 Inspect and service cooling systems
AURTTD002 Inspect and service steering systems
AURTTD004 Inspect and service suspension systems
AURTTE104 Inspect and service engines
AURTTK102 Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace
AURTTQ001 Inspect and service final drive assemblies
AURTTQ103 Inspect and service drive shafts

Work Placement

Students are required to participate in a minimum of 70 hours of work placement, which is addressed through the school-based traineeship and completion of 130 days.

Eligibility for Qualification

Nationally Registered Training Logo The Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology requires 20 units, comprised of 13 core units and 7 elective units.

Students assessed as fulfilling the requirements for all the units of competency in the course will be eligible for the AUR20520 Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology.

Students achieving at least one unit of competency will be eligible for an AQF Statement of Attainment showing partial completion of their qualification.
